Asian Lanterns, Candles, and Candle Holders

Asian lanterns have a long history in the Far East. They're included as symbols in festivals, were popular wedding decorations, and have appeared in the houses of the nobility for centuries. Frequently made of rice paper, these fragile pieces were lit by candles and had to be carefully hung to avoid risk of fire. Asian lanterns were often adorned with the family crest when hung outside the house, or decorated with the names of products to create a lit billboard advertisement outside businesses of all types.

In modern times there are several types of Asian lanterns - candle lanterns that still create the soft lighting effects of old, as well as electric lanterns that use standard light bulbs or come on strings of Christmas lights. Many are printed with decorations of bamboo, koi, or Chinese characters and can be bought as sets to decorate a wedding reception or individually to combine different designs.
